Leading arts and culture bodies in the UK (including the Tate) are set to appeal to the government over the new spending cuts that have been announced under Cameron’s coalition. The government has asked all major arts funding bodies to outline how they intend to cope with cuts of 25 to 30%. While the government feels that these bodies are of course entitled to appeal against the cuts Culture Minister Ed Vaizey has pointed out that England is facing an extremely tough financial environment left by the last government and the burden of cuts must be shared across sectors. Cameron is hoping private money will help buffer the impact of the cuts.
