Criminals Imitate Charities To Make Bogus Collections

As if theft alone isn’t bad enough, there is a new breed of criminal that have taken to steeling from charities; surely that is plunging to a whole new level. The Association of Charity Shops have reported the discovery after leaflets were found that used well known logos, names and charity numbers - such as those of the RNLI and British Heart Foundation - to take advantage of donations made from the public. The latest incident in Hertfordshire saw clothes collections being made following the distribution of leaflets that imitated the RNLI. In 2007 it was calculated that £2.5million of bogus collections were made across the sector but after the recent spate it is likely the figure is now considerably higher.
