This week UNIFEM co-sponsored a high-profile event in New York around the theme ‘engaging philanthropy to promote gender equality’. The event was designed to highlight the need for strong partnerships between Governments, the UN, the private sector and individuals to push the gender equality agenda forward. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who spoke at the event reaffirmed his committment to the cause: ”Just as I am striving to ensure that the United Nations deliver as one, so do I want all partners to come together as one in the field of gender equality and the empowerment of women.”
