Future First praised in DCSF’s white paper for creating unparalleled state school mentoring programme
Today, Future First is highlighted in the Information, Advice and Guidance Guarantee for young people (IAG), as a leading example of the active and ambitious mentoring programmes that all schools across the UK should be engaging in. Future First is a grassroots organisation working to revolutionise careers advice in UK state schools, working with education and careers authorities to empower young people by building networks of former students to inform, advise and inspire current students about their futures.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families has launched the IAG Guarantee following recent criticism of existing support services, by the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions. Future First is recommended by the white paper because it delivers a programme that puts young people in control of their futures. By connecting young people to their school’s alumni, made up of approachable young people in a diverse range of careers, Future First allows pupils to receive personal, community-based careers advice; in turn, raising aspirations and connecting pupils to the opportunities they need.
