Government Look For Voluntary Philanthropic Fund From Bookmakers

The government has proposed to bookmakers that they launch a fund, thought to be in the region of £5-10m to support community sports programmes through Sport England.

Numerous industries - including the more controversial ones such as the mining and diamond industries - have signed up to voluntary codes of conduct to pre-empt government legislation. Here the government is encouraging voluntary action in collaboration with industry leaders such as Betfair, who have supported such approaches before.
