CSR is increasingly a global phenomenon and earlier this month an inaugural awards ceremony took place in Tanzania to celebrate the high performers in East African CSR initiatives. The prestigious event - held in partnership with the East African Business Council and sponsored by Bank M - had a luxurious setting in the Southern Sun Hotel, Dar es Salaam, and featured various prominent figures from African Business and Politics. Tanzania’s Honourable Minister of Trade, Industry, and Marketing, Dr Mary Nagu delivered the key note speech and commended the partnership between governments, communities and private sector in bringing social, environmental and economic development. The VIP audience included the Kenyan High Commissioner to Tanzania (H.E. Mutinda Mutiso), Director of the Tanzanian Business Council (Mr Dan Mrutu) and senior executives of shortlisted companies such as Microsoft, Safaricom, Zain and Tullow Oil. For each category, a winner and a highly commended submission were announced.
