New Fund For Social Enterprises

This Summer could hold good news for social enterprises as a £5m fund called VCap is expected to be launched. The fund aims to fill the funding gap between start-up and well-established social enterprises. Stephen Rockman, a private equity investor, has established the firm with promises of around one million pounds of investment from foundations and wealthy individuals. He is hoping for £5m and believes there is a growing appetite for investments that may provide a reduced profit but also offer a social benefit. The VCap Fund will make investments of between £50,000 and £150,000 in social enterprises that are ready to grow. Young social entrepreneurs may also gain mentoring opportunities with experienced business individuals who have shown an interest in offering up to 10 days of their time a year.
