New Government Plans Could Lead To Fewer Big Lottery Grants

The coalition government’s policy programme could lead to fewer Big Lottery Fund awards, according to the Directory of Social Change (DSC). The Big Lottery Fund, which gives half the money raised by the lottery to good causes, would have to curb administration costs from 8% to 5% to meet the con-lib reforming plans. As Ben Wittenberg of the DSC comments, the 5% restriction is ‘just ridiculous’ because other distributors give big grants, whereas the Big Lottery Fund gives thousands of smaller grants - and, ‘providing lots of small funds requires more administration.’
