On Monday night, teaming up with Standard Chartered Private Bank, we brought together a group of philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and charity leaders for an innovative event; ‘Dynamic Philanthropy: Social Enterprise’. The purpose of the event was to allow three inspiring speakers from Global Ethics (Duncan Goose), Afrikids (Georgie Fienberg) and Standard Chartered’s ‘Seeing is Believing’ (Joanna Conlon) to share their experiences of working in the social enterprise space in order to inform, and spark a lively debate. Dame Stephanie Shirley, UK Ambassador for Philanthropy, and guest of honour claimed in her opening remarks that the event would take guests “outside their traditional philanthropic comfort zone”.
TSIC’s CEO Jake Hayman chaired the discussion, which ranged from the place of tax breaks in supporting charity vs. social enterprises, to the value of international aid grants in developing countries. One audience member described the event as “showing the power of what can be achieved in the development space”.
We would like to thank everyone who took part for making the night such a huge success, and we hope the event will inspire further discussion and action around this exciting space.
