Vodafone Gives Massive Boost To Text Donations Campaign

Last week, Vodafone became the first mobile phone operator to pass 100% of the money received from text donations to charity. The practise of text donating is becoming increasingly popular as it utilises familiar everyday technology and allow donors to donate instantly. Vodafone’s move has been heralded by Joe Saxton (a key player in the ‘Text Donation Campaign Group’ and co-founder of npfSynergy) as a “fantastic boost for charities”, as in the past it has been common for substantial operator charges to put donors and charities off using the text donation service. Prior to the new move, Vodafone’s fees were 10% on donations of £1, £1.50, £3 and £5, while CAF figures in May stated that on average network operators only pass onto charities 80 to 95% of the money received in text donations.
