Relate is the UK’s largest provider of relationship support, working with upwards of 150,000 people a year. TSIC was appointed by Relate to support the charity in generating and testing new income generation ideas. Working closely with Relate’s leadership team, TSIC helped Relate move from a long-list of over 20 ideas to preparing to pursue two which present the most viable commercial opportunities. TSIC then delivered a full business plan for the two ideas, one which involves a kitemark leveraging the charity’s brand, and legal assessment of how to structure the trading activity.

Our Charities Intrapreneurship Programme takes organisations through a four month facilitated consultancy programme. Through receiving training and expert support, organisations have the opportunity to develop their own sustainable revenue generation ideas and business plans internally, at a much lower cost than externally contracting a consultancy project. TSIC also works with clients to support them with expansion models. As well as conducting geographical scoping work, we conduct detailed financial analysis to help determine the best scaling strategies.
BeyondMe is a social enterprise that links highly skilled business professionals with charities to work on projects on a volunteer basis. As part of an expansion project in 2016, aimed at increasing its geographic scope, BeyondMe appointed TSIC to help with its impact measurement framework, marketing strategy, market research, financial forecasting and financial systems. BeyondMe currently delivers the ‘BeyondMe team’, or its team-based giving model, as its primary service and flagship product, and it sells this directly to corporates through a B2B model, and it seeks to explore the opportunity of selling this through a B2C model.
In terms of business planning and scaling, TSIC conducted geographical scoping and competitors analysis for its B2B model, and market research to test the demand for its B2C model. For both models, TSIC conducted detailed scenario analysis and financial modelling. To guide BeyondMe in its business development strategy, TSIC authored a feasibility study on its expansion model; and created a 5-year financial model to determine which operating model would work best for BeyondMe’s expansion based on three scenarios: Continuation; Pricing Method Change’ Localised Operations. BeyondMe is currently using the findings to inform its strategy moving forward.
