Over the past two years, Sana Iqbal has brought remarkable energy, insight, and dedication to TSIC. As she prepares to move on, we’re taking a moment to celebrate her incredible contributions, reflect on her journey, and hear about what’s next for her.

We’re excited to share Sana’s story in her own words.

Reflecting on Two Years at TSIC: Key Projects, Achievements, and What’s Next

As my time at TSIC draws to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the standout moments and projects that have shaped my experience here. It’s been an incredibly fulfilling journey, and I’m proud of the work we’ve done, the lessons learned, and the relationships built. One project, in particular, that stands out is our collaboration with Plan International and EM2030, where we examined the impact of data gaps on girls and young women. This work not only had a direct impact on the community but also deepened my understanding of the importance of data in shaping policies for gender equality.

The Plan International & EM2030 Project: Closing the Data Gaps

The project with Plan International and EM2030 was one of the most meaningful experiences I had during my time at TSIC. We explored how critical data gaps disproportionately affect girls and young women around the world, particularly in the areas of becoming future leaders or participating in socio-economic spheres. This research was crucial in advocating for better data collection systems that are more inclusive of gender-sensitive metrics.

What made this project so impactful was how it connected directly to real-world challenges. Data gaps often lead to policy decisions that overlook or undervalue the needs of girls and young women, and we saw how these gaps can perpetuate cycles of inequality. Working alongside experts from Plan International and EM2030 gave me the opportunity to contribute to something much larger than myself—efforts aimed at advancing gender equality through better research and data practices.

Proud of the Bosch’s Economic Justice Fund and Charity Bank’s EDI Audit

Over the past few weeks, I have had the privilege of working closely with the RBSG team in designing and implementing their Economic Justice Fund. This experience has been incredibly enriching, offering a deep dive into the complexities of participatory grant-making. The collaborative process was not only engaging but also a valuable learning opportunity, particularly when we began to explore how to genuinely involve diverse stakeholders in shaping the fund’s direction. What stood out most for me was how an intersectional approach can significantly deepen our understanding of economic justice—recognizing that the challenges people face are shaped by multiple, overlapping factors. This experience has broadened my perspective and strengthened my belief in the importance of inclusive, community-driven solutions to address systemic inequalities.

Another milestone I’m particularly proud of is my involvement with Charity Bank’s EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) audits. EDI is a cause close to my heart, and I was able to take the lead in helping Charity Bank assess and enhance their policies and practices. The process was both challenging and rewarding, requiring us to engage deeply with both internal and external stakeholders, analyze existing systems, and propose actionable steps for improvement.

Learning How to Take Feedback Positively

One of the most important lessons I’ll take with me from my time at TSIC is how to handle feedback more positively. Early on in my career, receiving constructive criticism was a challenge—I tended to take it personally. But during my time here, I’ve learned to embrace feedback as an opportunity for growth, rather than seeing it as a critique of my abilities. This shift in mindset has been transformative, helping me become a better collaborator and more self-aware professional.

I’ve also come to appreciate the value of feedback in driving continuous improvement. It’s not just about making adjustments to a project, but about evolving as an individual and refining how we approach challenges. Whether from colleagues, partners, or clients, feedback has helped me sharpen my skills and expand my perspective on what is possible in the work we do.

Looking Ahead: Publications and Research Opportunities

As for what’s next, I’m excited to focus more on my personal publications and delve deeper into research-intensive roles. Research has always been a passion of mine, and I’m eager to contribute to the body of knowledge in my field through more rigorous, academic work. I’m particularly interested in exploring the intersection of data, social justice, and policy, and I believe that furthering my research will allow me to make a more significant impact in these areas.

What I’ll Miss About TSIC

I will certainly miss the dynamic and passionate team at TSIC, as well as the unique challenges that came with each project. Working alongside like-minded individuals who are committed to making a difference has been inspiring, and I’m grateful for the collaborative spirit that defines this organization.

Final Thoughts

As I prepare to move on, my message to the team is simple: Always take time to reflect on your work. Reflection is one of the most powerful tools for growth—whether it’s learning from what went well, understanding what could be improved, or simply appreciating the journey. Every challenge you face and every success you achieve adds something valuable to your experience. Keep pushing yourself to learn, adapt, and grow, and never underestimate the power of thoughtful reflection in making that possible. Thank you all for the collaboration, and I wish you continued success in everything you do.

As I look ahead to the future, I’m excited about the opportunities that lie in research and publications. I leave TSIC with a deep sense of gratitude and a renewed commitment to advancing the causes I care about. I’m confident that the lessons learned here will continue to guide me in the next phase of my professional journey.

Thank you to everyone at TSIC for making this such a rewarding chapter in my career! I look forward to staying connected and continuing to collaborate on future endeavors.
