TSIC Associate Roles

The Social Investment Consultancy (TSIC) is a global social impact consultancy. We partner with our clients to create an equitable society that puts impact first. We have partner hubs in London, Hong Kong, Accra and Bangalore, and experience delivering projects in over 30 countries.

We specialise in social impact measurement, social investment and diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, amongst other service offerings bespoke for clients.  Since TSIC was founded in 2008, we have worked with over 150 clients to help them maximise their social impact. We pride ourselves on our approach of delivering local-minded solutions whilst leveraging our global networks.

We are growing consultancy, committed to driving change across sectors. Over the past years, we have been pushing the agenda around diversity in the social investment sector and introduced innovative methodologies and toolkits, such as USERS: Putting users’ voices at the heart of Evaluation and The Diversity Forum Toolkit: Practical resources.

The roles

We are always on the lookout for passionate people to collaborate with on a freelance basis across our ever-changing portfolio of projects, and to support the development of our team. We have two role levels:

  • Senior Associate – we work with a range of Senior Associates with deep expertise in one or more areas to co-deliver on projects and provide strategic advisory. This role is flexible to the time and interest of the Senior Associates, and is always tailored based on individual conversations. Usually with over 10 years of experience in consulting or similar client-facing contexts, and demonstrable thought leadership across their areas of expertise
  • Associate – we work with a range of Associates with experience in social impact and/or consulting, to co-deliver on projects. This role is available on an ad hoc basis depending on our current portfolio of projects and needs. Usually with 3+ years in consulting or similar client-facing contexts, or delivering social impact projects

We particularly value lived and personal experience as well as professional experience, and we consider everyone individually, not according to strict criteria.

  • Key responsibilities for the role will include:
  1. Supporting the delivery of our consultancy projects, for example conducting desk research, interviews, data analysis, implementing methodologies, or co-delivering presentations.
  1. Providing senior advisory in topics of your specialism, for example quality assurance reviews, strategy advisory, joining project meetings, designing and delivering training sessions, writing thought pieces.
  1. As we develop our working relationship, there may be opportunity to support ongoing work aligned with your own interests – we will get to know you as you’re inducted and suggest potential opportunities as they develop.

Our Associate needs vary over time, and so we may have opportunities to offer you immediately, or we may add you to our directory for potential future work. You can always keep us up to date with your availability to align this with our needs.

The team at TSIC were a pleasure to work with. Their professionalism, expertise, and integrity in helping clients grow and learn was clear across a wide range of projects. Even as a freelancer, I felt welcomed and valued as a colleague, and appreciated the chance to work with such a mission-driven team.” Erica, TSIC Associate

What we ask for

With our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we want the sector to better reflect and understand the people it sets out to serve. We believe that this change needs to start with how we deliver our work, and so we are particularly keen to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and with lived experience of social issues. You can be based anywhere in the world, and deliver your work fully remotely.

We are interested to hear from anyone with experience and expertise in any area you think may align with our work and values, for example:

  • Experience in one or more of the TSIC services we offer
  • Thematic experience in a particular social issue
  • Regional experience of social impact in a particular context
  • Sector experience in a particular context, for example government and public sector, social enterprises, trusts and foundations
  • Policy and research
  • Global marketing and communications in a social impact context
  • Systems change
  • Fluency in languages other than English

Currently we are particularly looking for people with experience and expertise in:

  • Impact investment
  • Trade policy
  • Racial equity
  • Catalytic capital / blended finance
  • Working with private investors (private equity funds)

At a base level, anyone that joins us needs to:

  • Be comfortable working in a changing, forward-thinking environment that’s fast-paced
  • Be fully accountable for your own work and always deliver on what’s promised and agreed
  • Be happy to take initiative and work autonomously (but this means you’ll enjoy flexibility and the opportunity to deliver exciting and strategic work creatively)
  • Have strong attention to detail and be a great communicator, ideally experience in public speaking, leading client presentations, and preparing reports for a senior audience
  • Have insight into how social change occurs – what is needed and what makes a difference and how the various sectors interact to make this happen;
  • Be a creative, open-minded individual who is passionate about social change and wants to change the status quo!

What we offer you

As an Associate of TSIC you will be working with our dynamic and diverse team of consultants with backgrounds in management consultancy, social enterprise, entrepreneurship, and international development.

We offer a tailored, inclusive working approach, balancing the needs of our projects with those of the project team. We hold initial learning style chats to understand how we can best work with you to thrive in the role.

We have weekly learning chats on different topics and a directory of training resources that we can draw upon to contribute to any areas of learning and development you would like to. We have a learning and development leadership group who continually build on and improve our approaches to learning and development.

We are also flexible to work in partnership to co-deliver on projects, and offer referrals and bonuses for projects brought into TSIC by Associates. Please ask us for more details on this if you are interested.

How to apply

We recruit on a rolling basis, so you can get in touch anytime, but we are looking to bring on board a number of new Senior Associates and Associates in autumn 2023, as we are currently growing as an organisation.

Our recruitment and application process is flexible, and we aim to be as inclusive as possible – if you have a preference on how you think you can best demonstrate your skills and experience, email [email protected] and we can talk this through.

In general we have a three-stage process:

  1. Email your CV with this completed short expression of interest form https://www.tsiconsultancy.com/wp-content/uploads/TSIC-Associate-Expression-of-Interest-Form.docx to [email protected]
  1. Your skills and credentials https://www.tsiconsultancy.com/wp-content/uploads/TSIC-Associate-Skills-Overview-and-Credentials.xlsx – where it seems there could be a good match, we ask you to fill in our skills overview and credentials form, including:
  1. Your skills overview, to understand more about your range of experience and interests
  1. Your credentials, writing a paragraph on each of the experience or expertise areas that you could bring to the role, as you might write in a project proposal. You can include as many areas as you feel relevant to our work.

You are welcome to fill in this form and email over with your CV and expression of interest form in the first stage if you like, but there is no expectation to do so before we’ve first agreed there could be potential work available for you.

  1. Conversation – when we know there’s an opportunity to offer work that’s aligned with your experience and availability, we’ll be in touch to arrange a conversation to talk this through. We’ll ask questions to make sure we’re a good fit, and we’ll also ask for references.

Please email [email protected] regarding any queries about the role.
